Cognitive Surplus - Digital Media Phenomenon - Clay Shirky

Last year Americans alone spent 200 billion hours of their time watching TV. Compare it with 100 million hours,  spent so far by the volunteers of  the entire database on Wikipedia to create the knowledge base that entire world is happy to use every day.  Many more wikipedias can be created as more people come forward to contribute to create knowledge bases. This time was available earlier also but digital media makes it possible to people to contribute in an economical way. Definitely significant number of persons took the initiative and some of the things they created is helping the world in amazing way. This has to motivate more projects and help in creating more cognitive surplus.
